Due to environmental concerns and the rising cost of fuel, more people are looking to buy or lease fuel-efficient vehicles. In recent years, the sales of hybrid vehicles have grown in leaps and bounds. Not only do hybrid vehicles decrease the amount of carbon emissions being released into the atmosphere and reduce our dependence of fossil fuels, but they can save consumers a lot of money on their auto insurance.

More insurance companies are now offering auto insurance discounts to people who own hybrid vehicles. The discount can be as much as 10% or more depending on the particular insurance provider’s policy. Offering an insurance discount is not only an incentive for buying a ‘greener’ vehicle, but research has shown that people who buy hybrids tend to be more responsible drivers which puts them in a lower risk category. People deemed to be low risk drivers will pay lower premiums. These drivers tend to have better driving records as well as a better credit rating which are factors that contribute to a lower insurance rate.

As with insuring any type of vehicle, hybrid owners should also take the appropriate measures to lower their insurance rates. For instance, installing anti-theft devices, taking a drivers training program, installing safety devices such as air bags, maintaining a good credit rating, maintaining low mileage, and keeping high risk drivers off the insurance policy, are all effective ways a driver can get a lower insurance rate.

Because the costs of insurance will vary among insurance providers, when searching for insurance for a hybrid, it is important to comparison shop for cheap hybrid car insurance quotes. There are insurance information websites that offer an insurance quote search tool that gives people the ability to receive a number of different insurance quotes from different providers at the same time. They can read through each quote and select the cheapest policy that meets their particular insurance needs.

When searching for a hybrid car, it is important to take advantage of any tax saving credit offers. As well, to be truly environmentally conscious, check the ‘green’ rating for a particular hybrid car. By taking the time to do your research, you will better be able to get the lowest possible price for insuring your hybrid.

As gas prices rise, the amount of gas being purchased is falling. Many consumers, especially American consumers, have been able to spend generously on SUVs and other luxury vehicles that use far more gas than regular sedans. In order to continue to allow this group to use such vehicles, it has become increasingly popular to make hybrid SUVs and trucks, that provide far more miles to the gallon. The Ford Escape, Cadillac Escalade hybrid, Lexus SUV, and the Toyota Prius are among some of the currently most popular green hybrid electric vehicles.

The Toyota Prius is currently by far the most popular, largely in part due to the superior design and room that Toyota has offered in this compact little car. Its battery design is unique and offers a lighter weight and more energy than any other current design, with a lightweight vehicle body and smaller energy that supplies more than enough power and uses the additional power to recharge the batteries. This has been a remarkable advance in battery technology, which has been the only hindrance in designing all electric vehicles. Many HEV (hybrid electric vehicles) would be far more superior if they had lighter battery designs that were more efficient.

More interesting advances have been made including using laptop batteries, especially recycled laptop batteries, to power cars that in most cases can completely outperform the most advance combustion engine. As technology and interest in demand grows, it is expected that new battery designs and lighter vehicles will be made available to consumers, both here and abroad. As ordinary vehicle sales drop due to the amount of gas they consume, the new green hybrid electric vehicles are taking center stage and encouraging a more responsible and efficient driver.

When you are planning on purchasing a HEV, be sure to read professional and consumers reviews. In addition, before you make any purchase you should compare the different vehicles, and only buy a vehicle you need. This will save you time, money, and help contribute to the green economy that is building slowly. It would also be best to take a vehicle out for a lengthy test drive before you purchase your new HEV, in order to see the difference and discern if you enjoy being behind the wheel.

Coca Cola Enterprises has a long standing tradition of response to the needs and concerns of the local and national communities. The addition of hybrid trucks not only reduces emissions across the entire United States but also at their central hub in Atlanta. Energy efficiency and ecofriendly practices are at the highest level of concern for Coca Cola Enterprises, and they are actively looking into other ways to reduce their overall energy usage and provide a driving force in the movement for corporate and industrial ecological evolution. Their goal is to conserve energy and reduce waste.

The stratagem that Coca Cola Enterprises is currently employing involves five areas of focus within the realm of sustainability and responsibility. They include the environmentally conscious areas of energy conservation/climate change, sustainable packaging/recycling and water stewardship. These areas of focus are helping Coca Cola to reach practices which are sustainable, and towards that end Coca Cola is opening a subsidiary focused on the development of recycling solutions and water saving improvements, as well as energy conserving practices. The Coca Cola Recycling subsidiary is aiming to increase the energy savings and water savings of the Coca Cola Enterprise's business and surrounding communities. All of their efforts have earned an Orion Energy Systems Environmental Stewardship award in early January.

The fleet of hybrid trucks include 142 delivery vehicles which are composed mostly of the 12 bay trucks (weighing a 16.5 ton gross). Some of the newer included trucks are based on the model grossing 27.5 tons and is the corporation's standard delivery vehicle. The hybrid technology in the delivery trucks result in a third less fuel consumption and a third less emissions that are produced. The technology is based upon a parallel hybrid system which is fully electric at speeds below 30 miles per hour, which cuts fuel consumption the most. This expansion in their fleet is thanks to the success of their initial fleet of trucks provided by the combination of hybrid technology supplied by Eaton Corporation and other high tech equipment from other suppliers.

The initial fleet was formed back in 2001, where a extensive testing and trial period was under way regarding the use of the hybrid trucks. By 2008, Coca Cola Enterprises had deployed 142 hybrid trucks all across the nation. Overall, the corporation is looking to reduce their impact upon the Earth, and their successful efforts so far should provide example to other companies in the future.

Green hybrid electric vehicles are vehicles that combine the use of gasoline and electricity together to save on carbon dioxide emissions and the use of gasoline. A lot is currently being done to convert these gasoline electric hybrid vehicles like the Toyota Prius into electricity-only based vehicles by creating plug in conversions and adding batteries that are more powerful than what these vehicles come with. The regular Prius may be a hybrid vehicle, for example, but it is still a gasoline dependent car. Its energy is derived from the gas tank, pure and simple. By converting this vehicle into an electric vehicle, it can derive its energy from a standard electric wall outlet, turning the wall outlet into the gas tank rather than relying upon actual gasoline in order to power the vehicle.

With gas prices fluctuating so wildly right now, more people are showing interest in the idea of converting their hybrid vehicles into vehicles that run specifically on electricity, rather than gasoline alone or even a combination between gasoline and electricity. A lot of the cars that are turning to the garages capable of making these improvements are Toyota Prius hybrids, which are already green in their own right but are also capable of seeing massive improvement for greener capabilities.

This conversion involves replacing nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery packs with lead acid batteries, significantly extending the distance that the car is capable of traveling while running on electricity. Converting a hybrid Prius vehicle to a purely electricity run vehicle only costs around $7,500, which is not a bad price at all if you consider the implications of turning a gasoline powered vehicle into one that runs purely on electricity. With conversions like these, gasoline becomes completely optional, no longer being required to operate the vehicle. Driving with gasoline is still possible, but only necessary when driving for long periods of time. This gives drivers the flexibility to not burn gasoline if they do not want to.

Imagine taking this green concept even further, by powering your car using solar energy. If your home is powered by solar energy, and your car is run completely on electricity, then your vehicle really cannot get any greener. Plugging in your vehicle makes a whole lot of sense to the pocketbook, and for the environment as well.

Regular cars use batteries, of course, but it's a completely different device than the battery in a green hybrid electric vehicle. Unlike a regular car battery, a green vehicle battery is rechargeable, and can power the vehicle by itself for a certain amount of time. No matter how good the battery is in your gas-powered vehicle, if you run out of gas, you won't move an inch. A green hybrid vehicle battery is designed to be able to sustain power for so many minutes or miles.

The battery in the most popular green hybrid vehicle on the road today, the Toyota Prius, as well as other cars, is a nickel metal hydride battery often referred to as a NiMH battery. It's located in different places depending on the model. Just like a regular car battery, it's made up of several cells—this one has 168 (though the first generation Prius contained batteries with 228 cells each, so they've obviously already made strides with streamlining the batteries). It creates 201.6 volts of power, and weight about 53 kg. Each cell is about the size and shape of a D-battery. Picture how much room 128 D batteries would take up in a small green hybrid vehicle, and the need for streamlining becomes apparent.

The Ford Escape battery, for instance, has 250 cells, the Highlander Hybrid has 240. The Honda Insight only has 120 cells, but you can only get 144 volts of power, and has a more limited use time than other larger batteries in other green hybrid electric vehicles.

New technology in green hybrid electric vehicle batteries will allow the batteries to be smaller and lighter while offering maximum efficiency. The lithium-ion battery (Li-ion) holds about twice the energy as a nickel metal hydride battery, pound for pound. The change in battery technology is impressive when you look at the beginnings of electric hybrid vehicles. Where the lead-acid battery used in General Motors' 1997 green hybrid electric vehicle weight about 1200 pounds and was 8 feet long, the battery going into their new green hybrid Volt is lithium-ion, contains the same power as the old battery, but measures in at 5 feet and 400 pounds.

Because the amount of power needed to move a green hybrid vehicle increases with its weight, lighter batteries can only improve the fuel efficiency of these cars. They do so in two ways—not just because they use lighter weight batteries, but batteries that use less space, allowing green hybrid electric vehicles to be built smaller, which also decreases the vehicle's weight.

The hybrid Cadillac Escalade that is coming out for the 2009 model year is answering a question that many people are afraid to ask: There are a multitude of consumers out there that are looking for a vehicle out there that offers better fuel economy, but they absolutely refuse to have to compromise on the luxury and utility that comes with driving in a vehicle like the Cadillac Escalade. With an Escalade that is suddenly capable of getting up to 50 percent better gas mileage, Cadillac may finally have what it takes to reach out to a genre of customers that has yet to find their perfect vehicle.

The regular Cadillac Escalade gets an EPA rating of only 12 miles per gallon when driving in the city, and only 19 miles per gallon for driving on the highway. The green Cadillac Escalade hybrid version gets an estimated 20 miles per gallon in the city and 21 miles per gallon on the highway, and these are significant numbers when it comes to an improvement in fuel economy. As a reference point, consider the 2008 Toyota Camry, which features a weight of 2,400 lbs less than the Escalade Hybrid, which gets 19 miles per gallon in the city. In other words, a larger vehicle with 2,400 more lbs on it is getting the same mileage as a much smaller Toyota.

The Cadillac Escalade hybrid is a hybrid electric vehicle that looks superficially almost identical to the standard Cadillac Escalade, but mechanically these two Cadillac Escalade vehicles are completely unique beasts to one another. The Cadillac Escalade hybrid uses a two mode hybrid system that is proprietary to General Motors, one which allows for the vehicle to operate electrically with a battery, and the engine is shut off, and the other which achieves the same thing but with a standard engine. Using the electric, battery operated version achieves a much higher gas mileage than the version that runs on the regular engine alone. When you're idling at a stop light, your Cadillac Escalade hybrid electric vehicle will switch into battery mode, so while everyone around you is burning gasoline, you simply aren't. Think about it: All the power and utility behind a Cadillac Escalade, without all the gas mileage. Does it really get any better?

By driving a hybrid, you can significantly cut down on the emissions that your vehicle is putting out, while increasing efficiency while driving. There are numerous benefits for why you should drive a hybrid electric vehicle or another type of hybrid vehicle, especially when the technology that is being utilized is environmentally friendly and cuts down on harmful emissions in the air. Because traditional vehicles are ineffective in numerous situations, including idling and stop and go traffic, purchasing and driving an efficient green hybrid electric vehicle is an excellent way to change up the way you drive, and to make your transit much more efficient and more environmentally friendly in the long run.

In the grand scheme of things, the number of harmful vehicles out there is too innumerable to count. - They are much better on the environment, because they have a much lower amount of emissions, which means they are much gentler and are causing less harm by being on the road. If you don't want to sacrifice your car for a bus pass or a bicycle, buy a hybrid electric vehicle instead.

- They reduce our dependence on foreign oil and domestic oil by allowing us to use far less petroleum, plus many hybrid electric vehicles run on diesel which is much easier to produce, especially now that we are able to produce biodiesel from corn and even algae!

- Hybrid electric vehicles never have to be plugged into a wall socket, because they produce their own energy from numerous processes, including braking, by storing energy that is normally lost through heat in the batteries for future use.

- They get excellent gas mileage, which should be reason enough for why a hybrid electric vehicle or other green friendly vehicle is the best option to purchase. You will be saving significant money on gas, which will help your budget tremendously!

- Some governments offer tax breaks to people who buy these vehicles. You may find out that buying a hybrid electric vehicle or other green vehicle choice scores you a tax deduction at the end of the year. How's that for saving?

- They are extremely quiet. They are not nearly as noisy as traditional vehicles, making them excellent choices for quiet neighborhoods and quiet households.
