The Cadillac Escalade line of vehicles has recently released its newest incarnation, the Cadillac Escalade Hybrid 2009. This is a green hybrid electric vehicle that is based on Escalade's proprietary two mode hybrid system. The Cadillac Escalade Hybrid SUV is the first hybrid entering into the full size luxury SUV market, and it offers fuel economy gains that are significant in comparison to the base Escalade vehicles. Once you get past the strange notion that is a Cadillac Escalade hybrid, the numbers associated with this particular vehicle begin to make sense, and the experience that you gain with this vehicle compromises very little in comparison with what you would normally expect from any old regular Cadillac Escalade.
The hybrid Cadillac Escalade that is coming out for the 2009 model year is answering a question that many people are afraid to ask: There are a multitude of consumers out there that are looking for a vehicle out there that offers better fuel economy, but they absolutely refuse to have to compromise on the luxury and utility that comes with driving in a vehicle like the Cadillac Escalade. With an Escalade that is suddenly capable of getting up to 50 percent better gas mileage, Cadillac may finally have what it takes to reach out to a genre of customers that has yet to find their perfect vehicle.
The regular Cadillac Escalade gets an EPA rating of only 12 miles per gallon when driving in the city, and only 19 miles per gallon for driving on the highway. The green Cadillac Escalade hybrid version gets an estimated 20 miles per gallon in the city and 21 miles per gallon on the highway, and these are significant numbers when it comes to an improvement in fuel economy. As a reference point, consider the 2008 Toyota Camry, which features a weight of 2,400 lbs less than the Escalade Hybrid, which gets 19 miles per gallon in the city. In other words, a larger vehicle with 2,400 more lbs on it is getting the same mileage as a much smaller Toyota.
The Cadillac Escalade hybrid is a hybrid electric vehicle that looks superficially almost identical to the standard Cadillac Escalade, but mechanically these two Cadillac Escalade vehicles are completely unique beasts to one another. The Cadillac Escalade hybrid uses a two mode hybrid system that is proprietary to General Motors, one which allows for the vehicle to operate electrically with a battery, and the engine is shut off, and the other which achieves the same thing but with a standard engine. Using the electric, battery operated version achieves a much higher gas mileage than the version that runs on the regular engine alone. When you're idling at a stop light, your Cadillac Escalade hybrid electric vehicle will switch into battery mode, so while everyone around you is burning gasoline, you simply aren't. Think about it: All the power and utility behind a Cadillac Escalade, without all the gas mileage. Does it really get any better?
